Week 4 Info

Picture
For this project you'll need 5 pieces of cover board. There is a photo below of what I'm using.

I'm adjusting my book to use the flap attached to one side of the cover and I'm going to put either velcro or a button or ribbon to fasten the cover closed.

In addition to the items on the left, you will also need cut filler paper that is slightly less than 5" x 5", it can be as small as 4 3/4" x 4 3/4". It will need to be a stack that is 1" thick.

Tools that you will need are:

hot glue + hot glue gun
regular glue + brush
folder

I encourage you to experiment and bring things that you are thinking to add in to this one. This will be pretty quick putting it all together, so we can spend extra time working on bonus things and I'm happy to answer questions!

Week 3 Info

Supplies you'll need for the week:
ruler, pencil, scissors, glue + brush, bone folder, needle + thread, awl

Book materials:
board - 2 pieces 3" x 3" + 1 piece 1/2" x 3"
outer cover 7 1/2" x 3 3/4" - 4" (paper or fabric)
inner cover 6 1/2" x 2 3/4" (paper or fabric)
inner pages: 6" x 3" folded to 3" x 3" (at least 9)
optional - fabric to reinforce at spine - thin cotton or linen

if using fabric instead of paper it should be cotton or linen (natural fiber, not synthetic) and thin (glue should be able to penetrate)

other optional: decorative beads, pages with folders

Week 2 Info

I showed some really decorative stab-binding and here's where it came from:
https://beccamakingfaces.com/category/bookbinding/ - sadly it looks like she isn't updating this anymore, but the designs are amazing and inspiring.
Here are the instruction that I was following that I created for last quarter's class.

Here is the blog with the posts about the two rows of hole book. It's a REALLY log post, but I think since you're already familiar with it, if you scroll through the first bit then you'll understand.

How to prep for week 2's book.

1. Get a box out of the recycling - food packaging boxes work well because they're thin and easy to find
2. Cut one side of the box keeping the top and bottom flaps attached
3. Measure and cut in half - note the measurements of the final two pieces

These will be your covers.

What else you'll need:

Outer cover paper - 3/4" longer/wider than the covers
Inner cover paper - 1/4" shorter/narrower than the covers
Filler paper - cut to the same size as the covers (so mine would be 3 1/2" x 5")
Thread/twine/linen & Needle
Awl
Ruler
Glue + Brush
Something it is ok to put little stab wounds in (extra cardboard, scrap wood, etc)
