My teaching style is to do a demo with the class and to have a balance of step-by-step instructions with creative exploration. I would never have my students do something that I wasn't working on as well.

Nightscape Painting with Push/Pull
Acrylic painting for beginners class that focuses on brush strokes, values, and creating depth. Just two colors are needed, black and white. 

Brush inking from Photo Reference
How to use a brush, ink wash, and gouache to create works on paper with just brushes. Focus on using strokes for texture, dry brush, layering and depth. Drawing experience recommended.

Drawing & Illustration from Photo Reference
​Learn how to see the reference material and quickly translate the values and shapes to your page.

Intro to Gouache
For beginners to gouache paint. This class teaches mixing, gradients, blending, layering and dry brush techniques.

3-D Pop Up Art Card
Learn how to create 3-D works with paper. Start with basic pop ups and add more details to create a scene with a story.

Yarn Doll
Beginners dollmaking class. Learn how to make simple armatures from chenille stems and wrap with yarn. Details are added with beads, gems, felt or other crafty bits.

Intro to Tessellations
Tessellations are repeating patterns of interlocking shapes. They can be simple or intricate. Most people are familiar with the tessellations of MC Escher. This artform combines geometry and math skills with drawing. A great activity to get young people interested in geometry.

Bookbinding for the Novice aka Bookmaking
A few simple tools and paper are all you need to start making your own books. Scrapbooks, photo albums, sketchbooks and journals of nearly any shape and size. My classes focus on using materials you may already have at home, including using items that might otherwise be thrown away or recycled.
