The Book of Many Folds - I created this book after two students were in their second quarter of bookmaking with me. They wanted a challenge after mastering 8 other book styles and requested "something with more folding". Nothing I researched provided quite the challenge I was looking for, so I invented it. This book is full of folds - even the cover is an accordion fold. It's broken into three sections - A pull-out accordion fold, a Turkish map fold, and on the reverse an origami wallet inserted into a folded pocket. This type of book is eager for someone to fill it with secrets that are revealed with each unfolding. And one of the best things - zero glue meant for an easy clean up!
What to do with all those leftover scraps of paper? Make a book, of course.
This book has a fabric covered outer spine, fabric accents, and signatures sewn into fabric that is glued into the spine. It also has two triangular pockets perfect for collecting more scraps. Fabric is hand-dyed yellow with vegetable and herb dye as I didn't like the original cream color. |
Stay-closed cover book. This book was repurposed from a food box. I incorporated the closure flap to make a book that stays closed. The flap is covered in fabric and is stiff enough to hold the book closed. The inside is filled with sketch paper. I use this to practice sketching text and letters when I'm stuck on other ideas.
